Swedes are a fantastic winter plants and grown in much the same was as turnips The Rutabaga or sweed (Australasia), or neep ( Scotland) is in fact known by many names.  It is a root vegetable and a cross between a cabbage and a turnip

Plant in rows 35 cm apart.  They develop roots around the 12-16 week mark.

Culinary Uses

Firstly swedes can be stored in the refrigerator and can keep for a couple of months Delicious cooked with potato and carrot and mashed with butter, salt & pepper. Due to the glucosinolates found in swedes some people find them bitter, especially if they have a sensitivity.
