So what’s the difference between Angiosperm and Gymnosperms - is that Angiosperms have flowers, endosperm within the seeds, and they produce fruits that contain the seeds. These are the flowering plants and an extremely diverse group with 64 orders, 416 families, and aprox 13000 known Gera and 370,000 known species. Trees and shrubs are found in this group but it is the common flowers and plants that you know well - the herbaceous plants that make up the enormous diversity and are found across the planet What makes this division of plants so successful? They have compact DNA and cells. They are vascular plants often characterised by covered seeds. Angiosperms can be divided into Monocots and Dicots according to the number of Cotyledon, which is the very First leaf of the plant. The monocots have one leaf and the dicots have two. Angiosperms also divide into a number of categories Amborella - one species of tree endemic to New Caledonia. Nymphaeales - aquatic plants , about 70 species including lotus Austrobaileyaceae - sole genus with a single species Austrobaileya - grows in Australia Chloranthales - about 77 known species. Magnoliids - about 9000 species including magnolias, avocado, cinnamon, pepper Monocots - about 60,000 species. 20,000 of which are orchids.
