There are over 1600 species in the Amaryllidaceae family. Mainly found in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. These plants are generally perennials with fleshy leaves with veins running parallel. The majority grow from bulbs like garlic and narcissus and then others like the Agapanthus grow from rhizomes.
